A school pupil in western France on Friday stabbed his 15-year-old female classmate with a kitchen knife over a “personal dispute”, gravely wounding her, local officials and a source with knowledge of the matter said.
Teachers in the village of Ancenis, near Nantes, isolated the attacker, before police detained him, the regional prefect’s office said.
The teenage boy stabbed the girl in a school stairwell, gravely wounding her in the abdomen.
Police put the school on lockdown as they responded.
Around 700 pupils were confined to classrooms and 150 to the gym, according to a source close following the case.
