Dontrelle Willis on MLB Automated Ball-Strike Challenge System: ‘I Love It’

Now that we have a sense of how the Automated Ball-Strike (ABS) Challenge System is used in an MLB game, what are our initial impressions?

Consider FOX Sports’ Dontrelle Willis a fan.

“I love it for multiple reasons,” Willis said when asked about his early impressions of the ABS challenge system on Monday night. “No. 1, how they’re doing it, it’s very quick. Also, they’re using the scoreboard, so the fans can interact with it, so the speed of it is elite.

“Also, strategically, how managers are using it: Who’s going to be able to call it? They’re taking it out of the pitchers’ hands. [Seattle Mariners manager] Dan Wilson and [Athletics manager] Stephen Vogt said the pitchers do not have that responsibility. It’s either going to be on the hitter or the catcher we trust behind the plate.”

In what’s its first full season in the big leagues (the ABS Challenge System was previously used in the minor leagues and during the 2025 MLB All-Star Game), teams get two ABS challenges per game, with only the pitcher, catcher or hitter able to challenge a call promptly after a pitch. A graphic of the pitch relative to the strike zone then appears on the big screen to determine if the pitch was a ball or a strike.

If a team correctly challenges a call, they keep their challenge. Should the game go to extra innings and a team has exhausted its challenges, they get another one for the extra inning and every one that follows.

“That’s going to be a team-to-team thing about who they trust. There are some guys in the locker room who think everything is a strike or a ball, and there are some guys that you trust that have really good eyes that walk and take a lot of pitches,” Willis said about the strategy for teams in challenging calls.

“When are you going to use this ABS? Who’s going to use it? What type of count? You are going to see, day by day, different scenarios. Hey, you might have bases loaded, a 3-2 count and a close pitch in the first inning; that could be the game for you if you feel that way. If you get the call right, hey, you retain that. But, if not, it’s going to be tricky.”

Willis also noted that he agrees with teams taking the decision to challenge calls out of pitchers’ hands because their “depth perception” can be different from a catcher or hitter due to the angles they’re releasing pitches at.

Through the first series of the 2026 MLB season (series began as early as Wednesday, Mar. 25 and ended as late as Sunday, Mar. 29), catchers were successful on 64.1% of their challenges; hitters were successful on 42.3% of their challenges; pitchers were successful on 40.0% of their challenges; in all, 53.7% of challenges by teams were successful.

  • NFL Taps Seahawks for 2026 HBO’s ‘Hard Knocks’ for 1st time; Patriots in 2027

NFL Taps Seahawks for 2026 HBO’s ‘Hard Knocks’ for 1st time; Patriots in 2027

The Seattle Seahawks will appear on the HBO show “Hard Knocks” ahead of the 2026 NFL season, a person with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press on Monday.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because neither the Seahawks nor the NFL had formally announced the agreement to have the team on the league’s training camp documentary. The NFL’s behind-the-scenes show is in its 26th year.

The Seahawks didn’t have to participate in “Hard Knocks” for many years because of a rule giving a team the option if they made the playoffs each of the previous two seasons. That rule was changed a year ago.

Seattle has a handful of intriguing storylines ahead of the 2026 season. The Seahawks let running back and Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III (Chiefs), safety Coby Bryant (Bears), linebacker Boye Mafe (Bengals), cornerback Riq Woolen (Eagles) and wide receiver Dareke Young (Raiders) all move on from the franchise in free agency.

It is also unclear how Seattle intends to replace Walker’s production, whether that’s by committee with the likes of Emanuel Wilson — who was signed in free agency after three seasons with the Green Bay PackersGeorge Holani and Kenny McIntosh, or if the injured Zach Charbonnet will become the main option once he’s healthy.

Coach Mike Macdonald told reporters at the NFL’s annual league meeting in Arizona that the Seahawks are expecting to have Charbonnet back at some point during the season.

Meanwhile, the New England Patriots — who lost to the Seahawks in Super Bowl LX — are expected to be the center of the 2027 edition of “Hard Knocks,” according to ESPN.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Its Pick’em contests are straightforward, the app layout is uncluttered, and it comes with one of the easiest welcome bonuses: a free $10 just for signing up plus a 100% deposit match up to $200; make sure to use code ‘FOXSPORTS’. Betr’s low barrier to entry makes it an excellent option for users trying DFS for the first time.

Best DFS Loyalty & Community Features: Chalkboard

Chalkboard stands out for its community-driven design. Alongside contests, it integrates group chats and social features so players can compare entries, trash talk, and strategize together. Its 100% deposit match up to $100 plus a free square makes it especially appealing for groups looking to play DFS together.

Best DFS App for Serious Players: Underdog & DraftKings Fantasy

For long-term DFS grinders, Underdog and DraftKings Fantasy provide the best balance of value and depth. Underdog excels with its player prop Pick’ems and season-long Best Ball contests, while DraftKings’ GPPs offer life-changing prize pools. Both apps have large, active user bases, ensuring big contest lobbies and reliable payouts.

DFS Apps vs Traditional Online Sportsbooks

Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) apps operate differently from traditional online sportsbooks, but the choice between them often comes down to how you like to play. DFS apps focus on contests, player props, and season-long formats like Best Ball, while sportsbooks revolve around odds, lines, and betting markets. Many users enjoy using both, but DFS apps offer a unique blend of accessibility and creativity.

    DFS App Benefits

    • Contest-based play (Pick’em, Best Ball, Draft contests) instead of straight wagers
    • Lower entry points — you can play for as little as $1–$5
    • Easier for beginners: no need to understand spreads, moneylines, or advanced odds
    • Strong overlap with fantasy sports culture (drafting, tracking player stats, season-long engagement)
    • Built-in community features (some DFS apps include social chats, group contests, etc.)

    Sportsbook App Benefits

    • Broader betting markets: spreads, totals, moneylines, parlays, futures, props, and more
    • Higher potential payout ceilings for single wagers
    • Deeper live betting options with real-time odds updates
    • Heavier promos tied to major sporting events (NFL Sunday Night Football, March Madness, etc.)
    • Better suited for experienced bettors looking to wager larger amounts.

    Responsible Sports Gambling Resources

    • Sports betting should be fun, not stressful. If you feel like gambling is impacting your finances, relationships, or mental health, there are free and confidential resources that can help.

    Best DFS Apps FAQ

What is a DFS app and how is it different from a sportsbook?

    • A DFS (daily fantasy sports) app lets players build lineups or make player-based predictions to compete against other users in fantasy-style contests. Unlike sportsbooks, which involve betting on game outcomes or odds, DFS contests focus on individual player performance and are regulated separately in many states.

Are DFS apps legal in my state?

    • DFS apps are legal in most U.S. states, but availability depends on local regulations. Some states treat DFS differently from sports betting, which allows them to operate in places where sportsbooks aren’t yet legal. It’s best to check the list of approved states on each app’s website before signing up.

What is the best DFS app for beginners?

    • Underdog Fantasy is often a top pick for beginners thanks to its simple pick’em format, low-barrier welcome bonus, and clean mobile design. Sleeper is also beginner-friendly, especially for users familiar with traditional fantasy leagues.

Which DFS app has the best welcome bonus?

    • Many DFS apps offer strong sign-up deals, but Underdog’s Play $5, Get $100 bonus is one of the most accessible for new users. bet365 and DraftKings DFS also stand out for their generous bonus amounts and additional perks.

Can I play DFS contests for free?

    • Yes. Many DFS platforms offer free-to-play contests, including promotional games, freerolls, or beginner-only entries. These are a great way to practice strategies and get familiar with the app without risking real money.

How do DFS Pick’em contests work?

    • Pick’em contests involve selecting whether players will go higher or lower than their projected stat lines. Players typically make 2–5 picks per entry, with fixed payout multipliers that increase as more picks are added.

What are Best Ball drafts in DFS?

    • Best Ball drafts are season-long fantasy contests where users draft teams once, and the app automatically sets the optimal lineup each week. There’s no need for in-season management, making it a popular low-maintenance option for NFL fans.

Can I use multiple DFS apps at the same time?

    • Yes. Many players use multiple DFS apps to claim different welcome bonuses, access more contests, and compare pick’em lines or draft formats. There’s no restriction on having accounts across several platforms.

Are DFS apps safe and trustworthy?

    • Top DFS apps are licensed and regulated in the states where they operate. They use encryption to protect user data, follow responsible gaming guidelines, and offer secure payment methods, making them safe for real-money play.

Can I win real money with DFS apps?

    • Yes. Players can win real cash prizes through pick’em contests, drafts, and season-long competitions. Payouts vary depending on the contest format, entry size, and how well your picks or lineups perform.

How Does the Caesars Sign-Up Bonus Compare to the Competition?

Each Profit Boost allows bettors to increase the potential payout on a wager, with a maximum bet of $25 per boost and up to $2,500 in additional winnings. This format gives new users multiple chances to increase their payouts rather than relying on a single welcome bet.

    Compared to the competition:

    • Caesars offers multiple opportunities to increase potential winnings rather than relying on a single welcome bet.
    • DraftKings runs a Bet & Get promotion where users place a $5 wager and receive bonus bets once the bet settles.
    • BetMGM uses a first-bet safety net, offering up to $1,500 back in bonus bets if the first wager loses.
    • FanDuel typically offers No Sweat Bet tokens or win-required Bet & Get bonuses.
    • bet365 uses a Bet & Get format that awards bonus bets after a qualifying wager.
    • Hard Rock Bet has a similar Profit Boost token structure and value.

Overall, Caesars’ Profit Boost format gives new users multiple opportunities to increase potential payouts, making it a great option for bettors who want more flexibility than traditional Bet & Get or safety-net offers

    Where is Caesars Legal?

Here is a full list of states where Caesars Sportsbook App is legal:

    Caesars Sportsbook Review 2026

Backed by Caesars Entertainment, this sportsbook blends trusted brand recognition with an elite rewards system. While its app isn’t as flashy as DraftKings or FanDuel, Caesars delivers a polished betting experience and unique crossover perks. Caesars Sportsbook also appears in our list of best sports betting apps and best NFL betting sites.

Caesars Sportsbook User Experience & Interface

Caesars Sportsbook features a polished, professional interface that focuses on clarity and ease of use rather than flashy design. Navigation is intuitive, with a top menu that makes it easy to jump between sports, leagues, and live betting, along with quick links to popular markets.

The betslip is straightforward to use, allowing users to add, edit, or cash out bets with minimal friction. Filters for bet types help organize large boards, especially for major leagues. Load times are generally consistent, though pages with deep prop menus or large same-game parlay builders can occasionally feel slower.

Overall, Caesars delivers a clean, reliable user experience that favors functionality and accessibility over visual flair.

    Caesars Mobile App Review

The Caesars Sportsbook mobile app provides a clean, reliable betting experience with easy navigation, an integrated wallet, and quick access to promotions and Caesars Rewards. Performance is generally stable during major events, though live betting markets can occasionally lag and odds refresh rates are slightly slower than competitors like DraftKings or FanDuel.

    Platform App Store Rating
    iOS 4.7 / 5
    Android 4.5 / 5

Caesars Sportsbook App Market Depth & Betting Options

Sports You Can Bet On With Caesars:

Key Events You Can Bet On With Caesars:

Caesars offers betting markets across all major sports, including the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, NCAA, soccer, golf, tennis, UFC, and various international leagues. While their prop and alternate line selection is solid, Caesars is not typically known for posting the earliest lines or offering the most aggressive pricing compared to competitors. DraftKings still leads the way in terms of sheer prop volume, but Caesars provides a reliable selection. Same Game Parlays are widely available, giving bettors plenty of flexibility when building custom wagers.

    Betting Features & Innovation

Caesars focuses on reliable core features rather than experimental betting tools.

    • Cash Out: available pre-game and live for many markets.
    • Profit Boosts/Odds Boosts: common promos but usually single-use per day.
    • Live Streaming: available for tennis, soccer, niche events (not NFL/NBA/MLB).
    • Early Payouts: occasionally appear for soccer and select promotional markets.
    • Caesars Rewards is a unique innovation, offering cross-platform benefits across hotels, dining, and entertainment.
    • Caesars leans more on its Rewards ecosystem than tech-forward betting features.

    Caesars Sportsbook Live Betting

Live betting is reliable but not industry-leading:

    • Coverage includes spreads, totals, moneylines, props, and SGPs.
    • Odds refresh is reasonably quick but can freeze during critical moments (e.g., last seconds of an NBA game).
    • Interface features live scoreboards and animated game trackers.
    • Data depth is limited compared to DraftKings or FanDuel, which offer richer stats and visuals.

    Caesars Promotions

Caesars keeps bettors engaged with a steady stream of promos, though generally less frequent than some competitors like FanDuel or DraftKings.

    Examples of ongoing promos:

    • MLB Home Run promos (bonus bets for each HR when betting a player to go yard).
    • Leaderboard challenges with cash or bonus bet prizes.
    • NFL/College Football specials (insurance on parlays, early payout offers).

When promos are lighter, the Caesars Rewards program provides evergreen value, ensuring every bet contributes to perks like hotel stays and dining discounts.

The welcome bonus, Bet $1, Double Your Winnings Your Next 10 Wagers with Code ‘FOXDYW’, provides an excellent opportunity for new bettors to try different bet types and markets.

    Caesars Deposit & Withdrawal Methods

It also provides a range of responsible gaming tools, including deposit limits, time-outs, and self-exclusion options, to help players manage their activity safely.

    Caesars Sportsbook Pros & Cons

    • Strong brand trust backed by Caesars Entertainment.
    • Integration with Caesars Rewards loyalty program.
    • Wide state availability.
    • Frequent boosts and promos.
    • Solid deposit/withdrawal options.

    Cons:

    • Bonus bet format may feel less flexible compared to cash-back promos from some competitors.
    • Odds are generally competitive but not always the absolute best lines in the market.
    • Some users report the app can feel slightly cluttered compared to leaner competitors like FanDuel.

    Caesars Rewards Loyalty Program

This is Caesars’ biggest differentiator and the main reason many bettors choose it. Every bet earns Tier Credits (for status level) and Reward Credits (redeemable for perks).

Reward Credits can be used for:

    • Caesars hotel stays.
    • Dining and drinks at Caesars properties.
    • Entertainment and shows.
    • VIP event access.

    Tier Levels:

    • Gold – Base tier for new members.
    • Platinum – Unlocks extra perks and priority service.
    • Diamond – Includes complimentary stays and special event access.
    • Seven Stars – Invitation-only, VIP experiences across Caesars resorts.

No other sportsbook ties sports betting to real-world rewards at this scale, making Caesars especially appealing to frequent travelers and casino players.

  • Willis: Accountability Will Lead to Success For Giants’ Manager Tony Vitello

Willis: Accountability Will Lead to Success For Giants’ Manager Tony Vitello

Tony Vitello has struggled to start the 2026 MLB season, as the San Francisco Giants’ new manager dropped all of his first three games in the team’s opening series against the New York Yankees at Oracle Park. After leading the Tennessee Volunteers to a College World Series victory in 2024, he has yet to find the same success as one of the first college coaches to make the leap.

“This worked in college, maybe this isn’t going to work in the big leagues,” FOX Sports baseball analyst Dontrelle Willis said on Monday ahead of the Giants game against the San Diego Padres on FS1.

Willis is slightly skeptical of Vitello, but he’s confident in the signs he’s seeing despite the results. In Willis’ opinion, Vitello’s road to success entails taking accountability in the locker room — with his players and coaches — and with the media. Each of which Vitello has done.

“I love what he said,” Willis said of Vitello’s comments. “‘Hey, I came into this with this type of tone, I’m going to make an adjustment.’”

That adjustment that professional baseball players and college baseball players are different.

“He understands, yes, they have to do their jobs, but you have to hold your players, and really, yourself, accountable,” Willis said. “That’s what he’s doing right there. I love and respect that.”

“You have to be yourself,” he added.

Vitello’s acclimation to the majors will go smoother if he has the confidence of all those in and around his organization. It might take a while, but it’s a long season and patience will lead to results.

“The bottom line is, you have to go out there and win ball games,” Willis said. “The key is to get guys to run through a wall for you and believe in what you’re doing. Hopefully he has a chance to do that. There’s still a lot of time left.”

2025-26 Women’s Final Four Odds: Spreads, Lines, What to Know About National Semis

All four 1-seeds making up the Final Four? That translates to the best taking on the best, with a trip to the national championship on the line.

Let’s check out the odds for the women’s Final Four at DraftKings Sportsbook as of March 31, as well as what to know about each game.

    FRIDAY, APRIL 3

No. 1 South Carolina vs. No. 1 UConn

    Spread: UConn -6.5
Moneyline: UConn -278, South Carolina +225
    O/U: 136.5

What to know: This is a rematch of last year’s national title game, a game that saw the Huskies smash the Gamecocks 82-59. The Huskies were actually a 2-seed last season, and beat three 1-seeds on their way to the championship, including a 14-point win over USC, a 34-point win over UCLA and that 23-point win over South Carolina. Now, UConn is on a 54-game winning streak, having won 16 straight at the end of last season and 38 straight this season. All of this doesn’t seem to bode well for the Gamecocks, right? Well, they’ve only lost three games this season, and two of those were at the hands of another Final Four team (Texas). In addition, this is the Gamecocks’ sixth straight Final Four appearance. UConn has made it to three straight. In short, these are the two premier programs in women’s college hoops. Only one can make it to the title game.

No. 1 Texas vs. No. 1 UCLA

    Spread: Texas -1.5
    Moneyline: Texas -135, UCLA +114
    O/U: 134.5

What to know: We saw this one in the regular season, and it was a meaningful game, considering it was the only game the Bruins lost all year. It went down on Nov. 27, and it wasn’t particularly close, with the Longhorns leading by 20 at half before winning by 11 (76-65). That game might have come down to turnovers alone, with the Bruins committing 20 to the Longhorns’ 10. Each of the six UCLA players that saw action had at least two giveaways. Needless to say, UCLA will have revenge on its mind, and that’s not unfamiliar territory for the ladies from Westwood. Last season, after suffering their only two regular-season losses at the hands of USC, the Bruins avenged those losses via a win in the Big Ten Tournament title game.

  • 2025-26 Women’s National Title Odds: UConn Favored to Repeat

2025-26 Women’s National Title Odds: UConn Favored to Repeat

The bracket has been whittled down to four.

The UConn Huskies and the South Carolina Gamecocks are the last two NCAA women’s basketball champions — and according to the odds, both teams are right back in the thick of it this season.

Here are the odds at DraftKings Sportsbook as of March 31.

This page may contain affiliate links to legal sports betting partners. If you sign up or place a wager, FOX Sports may be compensated. Read more about Sports Betting on FOX Sports.

    NCAA Women’s Championship odds

UConn: -160 (bet $10 to win $16.25 total)
Texas: +550 (bet $10 to win $65 total)
South Carolina: +550 (bet $10 to win $65 total)
UCLA: +600 (bet $10 to win $70 total)

The odds say this thing is UConn’s to lose — and losing is not something it is used to.

Dating back to last season, the Huskies have won 54 straight games. They sit at 38-0 this season, and they’ve won every Tournament game so far by at least 18 points.

Oh, and in those 38 wins this season? Thirty of them have come by 30 points or more.

UConn will face South Carolina in the Final Four, the team it defeated in the national championship last season by 23 points. This time, the Huskies are a 6.5-point favorite.

Tied for second on the board are the Gamecocks and the Longhorns, and Texas has arguably the best win of any team this season — an 11-point win over UCLA back on Nov. 27. It was the Bruins’ only loss of the year.

Now, those two teams will face off once again, this time in the Final Four, and the Longhorns opened as 1.5-point favorites.

One point to consider: UConn did not face any of the other Final Four teams during the regular season. UCLA and Texas played once, and South Carolina and Texas played three times.

In terms of rankings at the time of matchup, UConn’s best win this season was a 72-69 victory over then-No. 3 Michigan on Nov. 21.

Texas beat Michigan by 36 in the Elite Eight.

During the regular season, the Huskies went 5-0 in ranked matchups. Texas went 14-3 against ranked opponents, South Carolina went 11-3 and UCLA went 12-1.

USA Must Rediscover Intensity In Tuneup v. Portugal: ‘That’s Non-Negotiable’

MARIETTA, Ga. As he settled into his podium seat for Monday’s packed pre-match press conference inside the sprawling and pristine training facility of MLS side Atlanta United, U.S. men’s national team coach Mauricio Pochettino cut a businesslike figure.

The Argentine answered the first dozen or so questions matter-of-factly, displaying little sign of the charm that endeared him to fans of clubs across Europe — including the all-world squads like Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain — during the 15 years he spent managing on the continent.

Will Defender Chris Richards Play vs. Portugal?
    World Cup Schedule, Matches

Exactly 24 minutes into the back-and-forth with reporters, Pochettino’s demeanor changed. Asked how the American squad can keep its intensity high for all 90 minutes, something it failed to do in Saturday’s 5-2 capitulation against Belgium, in Tuesday’s World Cup preparation match versus No. 6-ranked Portugal, the 54-year-old instantly became animated. He gesticulated as he spoke. That trademark charisma was suddenly on full display.

“If you watched the game [between] France and Colombia, that is intensity,” said Pochettino, referring to Sunday’s exhibition between the 2018 World Cup champions (and 2022 runners-up) and Los Cafeteros in Landover, Maryland. Les Bleus won 3-1, yet the victory was anything but comfortable.

“You can win, or you can lose,” Pochettino said. “But do you think the coach of Colombia, [despite] losing the game, is going to complain about [the effort of] some players? They played like this was the final of the World Cup. And France, when they saw the intensity and the aggression of Colombia, said, ‘If we aren’t as intense, they’ll kill us.’ That is intensity.”

In stark contrast, the U.S. all but folded up shop when a Belgian penalty put the home side down two goals on Saturday with more than 30 minutes of the contest still left to play. The response, goalkeeper Matt Turner and others said afterward, should’ve been the opposite. As the saying goes: If you can’t beat them, beat them up.

Pochettino didn’t go that far, of course. And although English is his third language after his native Spanish and the French he learned playing as a central defender for Ligue 1 sides PSG and Bordeaux in the early 2000s, he couldn’t have expressed himself more clearly.

This isn’t the first time intensity has been a problem for the Americans since Pochettino arrived on these shores 18 months ago.

Exactly this time last year, a flat and toothless USA dropped home games to regional foes Panama and Canada in the Concacaf Nations League finals.

Pochettino was so upset that he and his staff “destroy[ed] what we needed to destroy” and began to rebuild the team in his own image by bringing in a gaggle of newcomers who have since become mainstays. By the end of last year, the lack of fight was no longer an issue: The U.S. literally brawled toward the end of a November win over Paraguay before beating the brakes off two-time World Cup champ Uruguay — arguably the hardest team, pound for pound, on planet fútbol.

It’s something Poch’s lot must rediscover between this month’s two games.

“It’s a conscious decision. It’s just an overall effort,” captain Tim Ream said when asked why the U.S. faded so badly against Belgium at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. “It’s not that guys don’t want to do it. I think sometimes it’s like ’I’ve just made an effort,’ and now it’s about making the second, the third, the fourth. And sometimes, that doesn’t happen.

“That’s something that’s non-negotiable, really,” Ream continued. “It’s something that we were doing really well in the fall last year. And it’s something we have to get back to.”

Pochettino noted on Monday that unlike last autumn, his players have been inundated with pre-World Cup media responsibilities this week. That wasn’t the case in November or in the two international windows that preceded it. Yet he also pointed out that it’s not a switch that can simply be turned on when the World Cup kicks off in June. That’s the big lesson from Saturday. It’s the mandate for Tuesday.

The 2026 World Cup co-hosts still might not win the match. Portugal has a legitimate chance of hoisting the most coveted trophy in sports next July 19. Even at home, the U.S. would require a miracle even to reach the final four. Failure to rediscover their pugilistic spirit could end in catastrophe. As Pochettino asked rhetorically of whoever his team comes up against next summer: “Do you think that they are not going to fight?”

“There’s still time to realize that we need to compete,” he reiterated on Monday. “The players need to believe in that.”

We’ll find out on Tuesday how much.

Six World Cup Spots Left! Italy, Poland, Jamaica Among Teams Aiming to Qualify

Twelve teams. Six World Cup spots to fill out the 48-team tournament. We’re in for a soccer smorgasburg on Tuesday.

This summer’s edition of the best sporting event on the planet will be the largest in World Cup history. It’ll be hosted across three countries – the United States, Mexico and Canada. And elite squads like Brazil, Spain, France and England will be joining the party. Not to mention Argentina (led by Lionel Messi) and Portugal (headlined by Cristiano Ronaldo).

[WHEN AND WHERE: Full Schedule for 2026 FIFA World Cup]

But before we get to all that, we have some details to finalize on Tuesday. In Europe, eight teams will be playing for four tournament spots. Later in the day, four teams from different parts of the globe will be playing for two spots. Here’s what to expect:

    JUMP TO: Kosovo-Türkiye | Bosnia and Herzegovina-Italy | Sweden-Poland | Czechia-Denmark | Bolivia-Iraq | DR Congo-Jamaica

UEFA Playoff Path: Kosovo vs. Türkiye

Fans of the U.S. men’s national team will want to keep tabs on this game as the winner will join the USA in Group D, alongside Australia and Paraguay.

This Turkish side is legit and aiming to get back to the World Cup for the first time since its memorable 2002 run when it finished in third place. Having finished second in its qualifying group to Spain, we can expect Türkiye to be a big challenge (especially against the USA) should it reach the tournament.

Team captain Hakan Calhanoglu is the engine on the pitch for Türkiye, with the Inter Milan star providing the tempo and creativity in the midfield. The squad has two young playmakers up top in Real Madrid’s Arda Guler and Juventus’ Kenan Yıldız.

Kosovo aims to keep its underdog run alive by reaching the World Cup for the first time — a potentially ‌momentous sporting turnaround for a country that had become independent in 2008.

UEFA Playoff: Bosnia and Herzegovina vs. Italy

The winner of this game joins Qatar, Switzerland and tournament co-hosts Canada in Group A at the World Cup.

Italy is looking to finally return to the big stage since 2014, an inexplicable drought for a team that has won the World Cup four times in its illustrious history. Should the Azzurri take down their Bosnian opponents, expect a team to be among the most talented at the tournament this summer. Inter Milan winger Federio Dimarco has been a consistent force for Serie A leaders this season with six goals and 15 assists.

Edin Dzeko, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s 40-year-old talismanic forward, is a familiar face for several of Italy’s stars. Dzeko has been a club teammate of all three of Italy’s starting defenders. Dzeko played at Roma with Gianluca Mancini and Riccardo Calafiori (now at Arsenal) from 2015-21. Dzeko teamed with Alessandro Bastoni on the Inter Milan squad that reached the 2023 Champions League final.

    UEFA Playoff: Sweden vs. Poland

The winner of this intriguing match in Stockholm joins Group F alongside the Netherlands, Japan and Tunisia.

Sweden had a dismal qualifying campaign but have found better direction under former Chelsea coach Graham Potter. Despite missing star Liverpool striker Alexander Isak with an injury, the Swedes have plenty of attacking options. In the 3-1 playoff semifinal win over Ukraine last Thursday, Arsenal forward Viktor Gyokeres netted all three goals.

Poland has some veteran depth headlined by Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski. The 37-year-old is hoping to cap off a stellar international career with a third straight World Cup appearance. Inter Milan midfielder Piotr Zielinski is also a key man for the Polish squad.

    UEFA Playoff: Czechia vs. Denmark

The winner of this match will join Group B alongside South Korea, South Africa and co-hosts Mexico.

Denmark is targeting qualification for its third consecutive World Cup, while Czechia hasn’t qualified for this tournament since 2006. Czechia had to reach this stage by overcoming a two-goal deficit to Ireland on Thursday and then winning in a penalty shootout.

Denmark has more individual talent on its roster – including captain Christian Eriksen (now at Wolfsburg), Napoli striker Rasmus Højlund and Arsenal defender Christian Norgaard. If they can get past a Czechia squad that has a capable striker in Patrik Schick, the Danes will make an already tough Group A even more so.

    Intercontinental Playoff: Iraq vs. Bolivia

The winner of this match (taking place in Monterrey, Mexico) will join France, Senegal and Norway in Group I at the World Cup.

Iraq is looking to return to the World Cup for the first time in 40 years and has played a competitive game since December. That should work in favor of a Bolivian squad that took down Suriname in Thursday’s semifinal match. The South American squad has only been to the World Cup once.

Intercontinental Playoff: Congo DR vs. Jamaica

This game (taking place in Guadalajara, Mexico) will join Portugal, Uzbekistan, and Colombia in Group K at the World Cup.

The Democratic Republic of Congo is one of Africa’s deepest squads and has some impressive players with deep résumés in top European leagues, including Aaron Wan-Bissaka (West Ham United), Yoane Wissa (Newcastle United) and captain Chancel Mbemba (Lille).

But don’t count out a Jamaican team that also has plenty of European-based talent – including Wrexham star Bailey Cadamarteri and Aston Villa midfielder Leon Bailey

USA Must Rediscover Intensity In Tuneup v. Portugal: ‘It’s Nonnegotiable’

MARIETTA, Ga. As he settled into his podium seat for Monday’s packed pre-match press conference inside Atlanta United’s sprawling and pristine training facility, U.S. men’s national team coach Mauricio Pochettino cut a businesslike figure.

The Argentine answered the first dozen or so questions matter-of-factly, displaying little sign of the charm that endeared him to fans of clubs across Europe — including the all-world likes of Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain — during the 15 years he spent managing on the continent.

Exactly 24 minutes into the back-and-forth with reporters, Pochettino’s demeanor changed. Asked how the American squad can keep its intensity high for all 90 minutes, something it failed to do in Saturday’s 5-2 capitulation against Belgium, in tomorrow’s World Cup preparation match versus No.

Les Bleus won 3-1. Yet the victory was anything but comfortable.

“You can win or you can lose,” Pochettino said.
