Wizz Air launches new flight routes between Spain and Italy

Low-cost Hungarian airline Wizz Air is launching a raft of new routes in 2026 connecting Spain and Italy, including a new Bilbao-Naples flight and a connection between Alicante and Sicily.

Wizz Air is aiming to fill the gap left in the market by Ryanair, which over the past year has axed numerous routes from Spanish airports due to an increase in fees by Spain’s airport management company Aena.

“Spain has been an integral part of Wizz Air’s journey for more than two decades, and we are here to stay,” said Silvia Mosquera, Commercial Officer at Wizz Air.

“Our continuous growth is a clear demonstration of our commitment to Spanish customers, who can rely on Wizz Air for affordable, reliable, and personalised travel across Europe. We will keep investing, keep growing, and keep serving Spanish customers with more sustainable travel options across Europe and beyond,” she added.

Between March 2025 and March 2026, Wizz Air added almost 40 new routes from 16 different Spanish airports.

These included flights to and from Alicante, Barcelona, Bilbao, Castellón, Fuerteventura, Ibiza, Madrid, Málaga, and Santander.

This summer and into the autumn, Wizz Air will launch even more routes, to Italy in particular.

Zaragoza to Milan

From September 2026 to March 2027, the airline will operate a new route between Zaragoza in northeast Spain and Milan in northern Italy. Flights will be scheduled on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Tickets for these trips will go on sale this May. Wizz Air is expected to offer 40,000 seats there for the upcoming winter season.

Barcelona to Naples

Another new Italian route has been announced between Barcelona and Naples starting on December 14th, with a daily flight between the two cities. This is part of the airline’s aim to strengthen its presence at El Prat Airport, where it is already the third largest operator by passenger volume after Vueling and Ryanair.

The announcement follows Wizz Air’s decision to increase capacity in the Catalan capital to 4.4 million seats, representing a 35 percent increase compared to the previous year.

Santander to Milan

The Cantabrian capital will be connected to Milan as Wizz Air will resume a direct service between the two cities on September 15th 2026.

This connection will offer two weekly flights between the northern Spanish region and Lombardy. Flights will depart on Tuesdays and Saturdays and from then on they will operate on Mondays and Fridays.

Wizz Air now offers 16 connections with the Valencian capital.

Alicante-Elche to Catania

Alicante on the Costa Blanca is to get its first connection with Sicily, also with a flight to Catania. It will operate three days a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Bilbao to Naples

Another new direct route will launch between the Basque city of Bilbao and Naples starting on December 15th 2026. The route will operate three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and will remain active until the end of October 2027. Tickets went on sale on May 18th.
